The Story of Applied Rare Talent
I'm not new to the art world. I've been creating works of art for more than 2 decades. I became more serious the last 15 years. I have had an interest in art since middle school. Throughout high school it was a hobby and a way to earn extra money through college. I have a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (concentration in Painting and Drawing) from the University of North Carolina @ Pembroke. I have found my work to be therapeutic for my viewers and me personally. In 2006, I was in a head-on accident with an 18 wheeler, that almost left me for dead. Along with breaking my collar bone, I also broke my jaw in five places, a rib, a toe, a femur, shattered my knee, and dislocated my hip. The only thing that wasn't injured were my hands. I found painting in occupational therapy to be helpful. Not only do I find this a hobby that I enjoy doing but I am educated and have professional training in the field.
I am a member of the River Roots Arts Guild and I have published art work in the Auroch’s ( UNC Pembroke's Literary Magazine) from 2006 -2009. I have won multiple first place and second place ribbons at the the NC state fair, Robeson county, & Wayne County fair. I've been commissioned to do murals in the game room of the university center at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2009. Along with Townsend Middle School in Maxton NC, Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro NC, Snow Hill Primary in Snow Hill NC. Also, different children's nurseries in NC and FL, and churches in Seven Springs & Wagram NC. You can find my work at Alamance Community College (Burlington NC) where I do a chalk mural monthly.
